MOTU PROPRIO of the P.O.V.S.

The Pontifical Pastoral Ministry for Priestly Vocations was instituted by Pope Pius XII with the “motu proprio” Cum nobis dated 4 November 1941  within the Congregation for Seminaries and Universities, today it is called the Congregation for Catholic Education.

The Pontifical Pastoral Ministry for Priestly Vocations expresses the co-responsibility and the close collaboration between the Holy See and the local Churches particularly in the coordination of the pastoral solicitude for the promotion of the vocations to the priestly ministry by spreading the Message of the Holy Father for the World Day of Prayer for Vocations which is annually celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Easter.

The Pontifical Pastoral Ministry of Priestly Vocations is committed to see to it that the Message is well received and that it is made use of by the local Churches and in particular by the National and diocesan Centres for vocations. In this way, a more intense prayer to obtain new vocations to the priestly ministry flows from the heart of the faithful, as Jesus commanded his followers to do; and, also, the responsibility of all, especially parents and educators in the faith, is enhanced in the service of vocations.
